Synthetic Biology: Engineering the Building Blocks of Life
Researchers are increasingly able to design and build biological parts and systems or modify existing ones for useful purposes such as the creation of new foods, fuels, ingredients for medicines, and cosmetics. It has been widely suggested that synthetic biology is redefining manufacturing and redefining life itself.
Join Dr. Tania Bubela and Dr. Peter Facchini for an informal discussion of Synthetic Biology research in Canada. Register for free at: http://sciencecafeedmonton.eventbrite.com.

|
The 3rd Banff Conference on Plant Metabolism is to take place between June 28th to July 2nd, 2012. It is a gathering of an international group of scientists active in general and specialized plant metabolism. Major topics covered at the conference will include: plant breeding and technical advances, comparative genomics and metabolism, hormones and signalling, metabolite sensing and metabolons, transport, biochemical pathways. As in the past 2 conferences, the Banff Centre provides a collegial environment for sharing ideas and for developing new collaborations. The international participation provides an ideal environment for exposure to state of the art science that greatly benefits participating students, postdoctoral fellows and principal researchers. .
